Red Carpet Report: 2012 CFDA Awards

The fashion industry's most talented were celebrated at the 2012 CFDA Awards, surrounded by spectacularly well-dressed models, designers and celebrities.  Sportwear-inspired gowns, colour-blocking, high-low hem, cut-outs and sheer fabric were the trends to be spotted.  Of the prizes were awarded, The Row took home the Womenswear Designer of the year, and Joseph Altuzarra the Swarovski Award For Emerging Talent in Womenswear Design.  We at NET A LA MODE made a list of the ten best dressed at the 2012 CFDA Awards.

#10 Mary-Kate Olsen

Mary-Kate Olsen debuted her brunette look in a long-sleeved black silk dress with a high-low hem from The Row with Louis Vuitton black suede peep-toes and a black purse by The Row.  A winning look from a winning designer!

#9 Devon Aoki

Devon Aoki brought drama to the evening with a strapless black and red Alice + Olivia striped dress accentuated by a lovely peplum and a short train.

#8 Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning took a break from sweet and sugary gowns to wear a long-sleeved kimono-inspired dress from Proenza Schouler's Fall 2012 Collection - origami chic meets New York cool.

#7 Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth wore an exquisite Joseph Altuzarra sarong-like dress from the 2012 Fall collection.  Her waist was exposed by a cut-out on the brightly printed dress and belly dancer medallion coins emphasized her hips.

Anna Wintour got the first pick on Marc Jacobs 2013 Resort Collection.  She wore a sparkling floral-printed dress.

#5 Hilary Rhoda

Hilary Rhoda opted for a sportier gown by Rebecca Minkoff. The navy, azure and sky-blue colour-blocked gown had a thigh-high split and cut-outs under the bust.

#4 Joan Smalls

Pradal Gurung's arm candy wore a long black gown with sheer panels on the waist and arms and a sheer train showing off Zoe Saldana's sleek legs.

The fashion's Oscars was full of glam and full of drama. Betsey Johnson snuck in some champagne in a Fiji water bottle tucked away in her gold purse.  Host, Seth Meyers, later poked fun at the fashionistas, saying “Fashion people like hating things more than they like liking things," but not before warning them that “Fashion and comedy go together like bar mitzvahs and John Galliano.” Johnny Depp was a no show to accept his Fashion Icon Award and Anna Wintour presented Tommy Hilfiger with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
