Runway Report: 2013 Bottega Venetta Resort Collection

“I grew up in a house with a lot of women, so I am concerned with what they need,” declared creative director Tomas Maier when asked about the 2013 Bottega Venetta Resort Collection.  Luxury and comfort are at the core of this collection. Maier tackled the subject of weekend attire by asking himself what women would wear during their days off.  The answer was viscose jersey lean track pants with matching superfine cashmere jackets, sporty tanks and long velvet evening dresses. Head-to-toe monochromatic outfits display a faded-citrus palette inspired by frescoes of Tiepolo and Vienese.  Butter yellow, pale peach and pistachio cashmere double-breasted peacoats with wide-leg trousers felt laid-back for such a mature look. Experimenting with materials introduces an alternative to the traditional leather bag. What resulted was a type of silk-leather that the the House used in the seventies, used now to make a slim day clutch.  In another piece, Japanese paper and metal were woven into their signature intrecciato bag.  Finally, organic black rubber with aluminium embellishments was used to make the large cabat bag.  This collection clearly embodies innovation in an effortless elegance.

White-Out: Memorial Day Style

Today is the day to break out the whites!  Whether you are a fashion classicist or you still suffer trauma from watching the 1994 John Waters movie Serial Mom where Patty Hearst's character gets murdered for wearing white after Labor Day, Memorial Day liberates you from committing a fashion faux-pas.  For the fashion atheists, white is simply the perfect color to kick start summer.  NET A LA MODE's all-white selection will keep you cool and looking fabulous all summer long.

Want to feel light and breezy?  Lace will be your best friend this summer.  You can wear it either in a classic look like the Gentle Fawn Lost Tank or a 70's inspired look like the Pink Martini Antoinette Top.

Show off your toned arms with sleeveless tops like Gentle Fawn Rustic Top  and the Press Sleeveless Shirt with Neck Tie.

Start a summer fling with flirty little white dresses like the Keepsake White Lies Dress and the Press Scoop Neck Dolman Sleeve Dress.

Look elegant in white with the Generation Love Theo Combo Knit Sleeve Cardigan.

Happy Memorial Day!

Friday I'm in Love: Bows

It's Friday, and here at Net à la Mode we are in love with BOWS.  How delightful is it to unravel a gift that was delicately wrapped by a satin ribbon?   Come check out these bow-tastic finds that don't need unwrapping to enjoy.

a.  We are in love with this sugary-pink cupcake bow.  Talk about icing on the cupcake.  (Sugarlips Cakes)

b.  We are in love with this Versace Venita Bow Satchel.  It's all wrapped up in exquisite pink goodness.  (The Purse Page)

c.  We are in love with this colourful cubes bow tie for dapper dogs.  Even dogs can't escape the Mad Men madness.  (Silly Buddy)

d.  We are in love with this hair bow tie. This hairstyle is much cuter and wearable than Lady Gaga's.   (Young Designers Online)

e.  We are in love with this romantic photograph of a bow ring by Kitty Gallannaugh.  This London photographer sure takes dreamy pictures.  (Kitty Gallannaugh)

f.  We are in love with this pretty bow garland.  Crafty blogger, Rachel Denbow, shows you how you can decorate your room with vintage-looking bows in eight simple steps.   (Smile and Wave)

g.  We are in love with this Keepsake Front Row dress. The satin bow in the front gives a an unexpected twist to the traditional LBD. (Net à la Mode)

Red Carpet Report: 2012 Billboard Music Awards

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards was kicked off by an electrifying LMFAO performance.  They showed off their sexy moves in a medley of their hits "Party Rock Anthem", "Sorry for the Party Rocking" and "I'm Sexy and I Know It."  Sky Blu and Red Foo's barely-there outfits are what celebrities usually strut at music awards, but we were happily surprised to find very stylish and glamourous outfits on the red carpet.  The NET A LA MODE team made a list of the 10 best dressed celebrities at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards.

#10 Jordin Sparks

Jordin Sparks looked fresh and young in her nude Diane Von Furstenberg dress.  The "Zarita" floral dress had a scalloped trim and three-quarter sleeves.  To bring this look from casual to red-carpet-glam, Jordin accessorized with David Yurman jewelry and black Diane Von Furstenberg T-bar heels.

#9 Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen, singer of that song that always gets stuck in your head "Call me Maybe", wore a floor-length neutral gown with Jacob & Co. ring and studs.  A lot of fans were surprised to see the 26 year-old dress her age but she quickly changed into her usual eclectic attires to host the Billboard Music Award after-party with The Wanted.

#8 The Wanted

British boy band The Wanted looked quite dapper in their suits.  We must admit that we are jealous that this generation of teens have this british invasion to lust over while all we had was 'N sync.  They even impressed Tommy Hilfiger that night, who promised to send them some clothes.

#7 Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys showed off her curves in this dark-berry figure-hugging Azzedine Alaia Couture gown.  Long-sleeve gowns are popping up everywhere, as we saw at the MET Gala.  Alicia enhanced her look with Repossi rose-gold hooped earrings and Jennifer Fisher rings.

#6 Usher

Usher rocked the red carpet with a daring baby blue suit.  He performed his new single "Scream" on stage with 20 dancers and he indeed made his fans scream!

#5 Zooey Deschanel

"New Girl", Zooey Deschanel brought 60's glam to the red carpet with her silver embellished sleeveless cocktail dress with contrast cream trim from Moschino's Fall 2012 collection and her beehive hair style. She accessorized with her signature black tights, horn-shaped dangling earrings and Miu Miu black pumps. She then tied up the whole mod look with orange lipstick.

#4 Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough sparkled in a sequined Kaufman Franco cocktail dress and accessorized with Nicholas Kirkwood shoes and H. Stern jewelries.  Her look was simple but glamourous.

#3 Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood went big in this silver-and-rose tulle draped gown from Oscar de la Renta's Fall 2012 collection.  Her frothy gown was accessorized with a pearl-and-crystal sapphire ‘Cara’ vanity case and silver paillette open-toe heels.

#2 Katy Perry

Katy Perry channelled the "Little Mermaid" in an iced-out metallic lilac drop-waist gown featuring a bodice covered with iridescent sequins that cascades down to a lightly embellished chiffon skirt from Blumarine's Fall 2012 collection.   The purple hair that she had premiered at Coachella actually works with this dress.  Her out-there outfits usually don't work for us but tongiht she managed to pull off an uncharacteristically elegant look (maybe because her date was her grandmother).

#1 Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift looked amazing in a red chiffon sleeveless gown with a lace bodice from Elie Saab's Pre-Fall 2012 Collection.  We all know how Taylor Swift has a fascination with fairy tales and how she loves to dress up as a princess but we must say that we love that she embraced the evil queen in her with this darker and sexier look.

Even with all the fashion on the red carpet, the highlight of the night was Katy Perry's premier performance of her single "Wide Awake", in which she flew onto the stage from above in an over-the-top dreamy gown.  We'll sure be dreaming of fashion all night after this spectacular event!

c.  We are in love with the Dutch landscape in May.  Three billion tulips bloom each year.  (Funzug)

d.  We are in love with these cute bulb party favors/seat assigners.  Simply plant a bulb in a candleholder and add a paper blossom and a vellum seat assignment.  (Martha Stewart Weddings)

e.  We are in love with this vintage wine country wedding table setting.  Wild arrangement of tulips in vintage bottles create a romantic setting.  (Brides)

f.  We are in love with this fun tulip-shaped chair by Brühl Innovation.  It is a great way to bring nature into your home.  (Infoteli)

g. We are in love with this super practical tulip hub.  Why should we let the boys have all the techy fun?  (Chic 'n Cheap Living)

h. We are in love with this tulip wedding shower cake.  It is a confetti cake filled with blackberry and meyer lemon filling.  It sounds as good as it looks!  (Pink Cake Box)

Runway Report: 2013 Chanel Resort Collection

On Monday evening, Marie-Antoinette's former home greeted a flock of A-list guests, like Tilda Swinton and Vanessa Paradis, who were chauffeured to Versailles to attend the 2013 Chanel Resort Collection. Over a remix of MIA's Bad Girls, the models strolled through the golden gravel wearing creeper platform sneakers (Alexa Chung must be delighted!) and chambray frocks that Marie-Antoinette herself would have worn if she had grown up in London in the 70s.  Chanel Make-Up creative director, Peter Philips, enhanced the look with a velvet Chanel logo, a wink to the symbolic teardrop tattoo, and hair stylist, Sam McKnight, iced the cake with what he calls the ''bob-tops''.  The hand-coloured wigs were chopped off at the back, popped on top of a ponytail and finished with a pastel-coloured bow, resembling how Kate Middleton's hair would look like if she donned the rainbow hair trend sported by Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj.

It was on the eve of the French political shift that Karl Lagerfeld played the Sun King in his punk version of Marie-Antoinette featuring model Cara Delevingne.  While Sofia Coppola's version made us bow down to the awesomeness of candy-coloured macarons, Lagerfeld's version made us crave sugary-pastel ruffled pannier shorts.  The hundreds of guests seated in custom-built canopied pavillons gleefully witnessed the display of eighteenth century excess and luxury.

Models paraded fichu necklines, lace jabots, straw cartwheel sun hats and high-waisted ruffled pannier dresses across the sequestered garden.  Lush-green topiaries and shimmering water fountains contrasted with the novelty sneakers in the same way that the gold rococo floral embroidery contrasted with the denim vests.  Chanel still stayed true to the House with beautiful structured garments in a restrained palette and cropped tweed jackets while playing around as Louis XVI with matching tweed palazzo pants.

Champagne and canapés were served in a glass house where Lagerfeld, adorned by an emerald pin, granted an audience to the press, leading up to the post-show punk performance by Alice Dellal's band Thrush Metal.  Let's see if the Queen's Jubilee can beat this!  On a side note, the Net à Mode team believes that Karl Lagerfeld is much better as Le Roi du Soleil in Versailles than as God in Saint-Tropez.

Q: What do you love most about modeling?

E: I like creating a story in every picture. If each picture says 1000 words, why not narrate it? Everything comes together for that single captured moment; the hair, makeup, clothes, expression, they all tell a story, and I like being the main character.

Q: How would you describe your personal style?

E: My style is very…50’s! I love the high-waisted skirts, ribbons, cardigans and pearls. Feminine, retro, chic…I like that.

F: Mon style est très inspiré des années 50! J’aime les jupes tailles hautes, les rubans, les cardigans et les perles. Un look féminin, retro et chic… voilà ce que j’aime!

Q: What is your favorite NET A LA MODE piece?

E: I’m currently wearing this awesome black BCBG dress, it’s my favorite thing I’ve worn so far.

F: Je porte présentement cette magnifique robe BCBG noire, c’est la pièce que j’ai le plus aimé porter jusqu’à maintenant

Q: Do you like that pastel-colors are going to be a major trend?

E: I love pastel colors, especially neutral, earthy tones. That’s all you’ll find in my closet, soft neutral tones.

F: J’aime les couleurs pastelles, spécialement les couleurs terres. Des teintes douces et neutres, voilà ce que vous retrouverez dans ma garde-robe en ce qui concerne la tendance pastelle.

Q: What are you looking forward to wear this Spring and Summer?

E: I’m obsessed with dresses and trendy hats, that’s all I’ll be wearing this spring/summer (and a bathing suit under every outfit, of course!)

F: Je suis obsédée par les robes et les chapeaux, c’est probablement tout ce que je porterai pour le printemps et l’été (et un maillot de bain sous chaque ensemble bien entendu!)
